Hello and welcome to the realities of dating and worse...marrying one of these dudes. You did not say where he is from so I assume he is North African, yes?

Your story is very similar to mine in that, my rat was already a citizen through the visa lottery and we were friends for years (no romance). Like you, he was a listening ear but deep down I suspected he wanted more from the relationship.
As time went by we became romantically involved and that's when his true colours came out.

It sounds to me like your dude has already used someone for his visa. Please check if he indeed has one because they have perfected the art of lying and I swear it's now in their DNA.
Which leads us to another possible motive for his interest. I suspect it's money.
You did the correct thing by being on alert when he mentioned being responsible for his sisters education. Those sisters might be a family of wife and children.

Most of them are in foreign countries not because they love or want to be there. They are there to "make" money to send home and so they can also return when they have amassed enough. Of course there are exceptions but those are usually professionals who have more opportunities in a foreign land.

My advice is to run as soon as he asks for money. Be careful because it can be a very subtle start. Look out for things like complaining about his salary, rent, sickness, people dying in his family, losing his phone etc.

If he is indeed North African or Muslim, then you must bear in mind that it's their culture to marry virgins, preferably one of their own that's agreed upon by the family. This is rarely any REAL marriage to a Westerner, especially one of a different religion.
