Do Not Take ANYTHING For Granted

As I write this, I am in the process of divorcing an Egyptian man that I met in November of 2015 and married in March of 2016. Because of the state that I live in, I have to wait another month before I file for divorce.

We separated a week before our first anniversary, after he beat me in a drunken rage. As the months have passed, I have learned MANY things about him that I did not know. I never met his parents (he told me that they stopped speaking with him - untrue), and he never introduced me to his daughter (again, he said that his ex-wife would not allow him contact), again, a lie.

Friends warned me that he MIGHT want a marriage solely for a green card... But I did not listen! I didn't want to believe them because I was in love with this man. I am a strong, educated, independent and VERY attractive woman, and I believed that this younger man really wanted me, but I believe now that he was ONLY here for US residency. "Coincidentally," we separated only THREE WEEKS after he received the temporary green card.

I WANT to believe that my story is unique, but I do not believe that it is. Best of luck and KNOW who you are marrying!! Do not take ANYTHING that he says for granted - verify, verify, verify!! AND visit his home in Egypt before you consider marriage!!!
