Depends on the concrete individuals

Dear Concerned Earthlings,

My uncle was born into a liberal Muslim family in Istanbul; he became a medical doctor and worked in Dortmund for more than two decades. He married a Catholic German lady, and both have been living happily in Western Turkey.

Categories may be helpful but if we exclude the rich diversity in life then we tend to limit and encapsulate people into rigid formations instead of encouraging them to open their minds/souls for self-re-evaluation and change. International and intercultural marriages can be -and in many cases are- positive steps towards world peace.

There is never a guarantee; besides, marriage is itself problematic; but unless we encourage an increase the number of bridges between cultural groups -including marriage and most importantly children with mixed background, then we can only expect prolonged bias and mutually destructive conflicts.
