Girl, this cannot be said enough. If a man is asking you for money for anything, even his flight to come see you he is not a self-respecting Muslim man.
My husband's best friend has been waiting almost two years to marry the girl he loves because he isn't financially ready yet. They don't play around with that stuff. It's a integral part of respect for themselves and their family and the woman in question!
