date of birth change to avoid military service?

I'm wondering if anyone has heard about the families of men in Morocco changing their date of birth in order to keep their sons from going to war. I've been dating a man originally from Morocco (a forty-something professional living in Canada for a number of years), who informed me fairly early into our relationship, that his date of birth was changed when he was in his early twenties, to 30 years old so that he wouldn't have to go to war. Apparently this was not an uncommon practice, & families have paid to have their sons birth dates changed for this reason. In his case, his father had high rankings in the military. I'm really curious about this
