Open letter, cultural issues

As we can see from this post, one of the main issues here is the vast cultural differences that occur between couples. You have to realise that an Egyptian woman discussing (alcoholic?) cocktails with a strange man would be seen as a huge sign of disrespect to an Egyptian man. The fact that you're not Egyptian should excuse you but, we all know how a lot of these men work, and that's to have their cake and eat it. They're sick of their uptight, demanding women yet when they get someone different they try to change her into the former! They want the best of both worlds. And a lot of the time, so do the women that fall for them.

What would be seen as abusive and irrational behaviour in the West is the norm in countries like Egypt. It is ultimately a man's domain. And as Luigi said, ask yourself if you'd tolerate this kind of behaviour from a European guy. A man's culture might promote his dominant attitude, but his religion and his soul don't.
