Hi JJ

I dunno if this is still relevant. I'm product of a Catholic/Muslim marriage, over 30yrs happy thanks be to God. My dad is a wonderful father, he gives everything for us. But it wasn't easy for my mum at first, loads of compromises and adjustments. I think it's important to get a feel of how conservative his family are, and see how you feel about that. Ideally, maybe you could return to Egypt, maybe hang out with his cousins/sisters? Personally I think a lot of young men are easy-going, liberal (and will say all the right things to avoid scaring off a female pre-marriage) but after marriage, and especially where kids are involved, I think they start to revert to what they've seen in their homes, often more religious and conservative. So I would try to gauge the family; how would they expect you to behave once you were married.

Also, you need to be aware of the laws, both religious and Egyptian, that you may then come under. For example, just be aware, most Muslims consider it completely forbidden for a Muslim woman to marry a non-Muslim (also illegal most of MidEast). Are you happy with enforcing that with your kids? I would clarify divorce rights, and your rights to leave Egypt.
