To x.. Very interesting reading

Hi X I found your post a very interesting read and could relate to some of the issues raised. I have just come back home after living in Egypt for a year.. I am finding it truly hard being home and having to start again but I am trying to bare with it and not jump straight back on the plane to my Muslim man. I met him over a year ago and very quickly moved over there without a thought.. Gave up my job friends and social life.. I worked hard and long hours in Egypt I spent money going back and forth before I moved out.. I have not given him any money or started any business as I don't have the means to.. But within weeks he wanted to marry which I put on hold as I was nervous and have been married before. We visited his family in Cairo several times where they were a little pushy about marriage and kids.. But I was not ready for all that. Over the past year of living there I as you have seen so much.. How we as women ESP western are viewed in their eyes, I have seen the lifestyle which is not the fairytale you first envisage.. The dirty back streets etc.. I have become isolated and lonely as I never see anyone as usually it causes arguments or he claims he cares too much about me to let me go out and see my friends as I will only get hassle..

Despite I have travelled the world alone before I knew him. I found myself sitting there realising at 32 I was watching my life pass by and felt I had no future there.. You live hand to mouth, it's almost impossible to save money, I cant imagine having children there.. ( of which they would have to be Muslim) so I then made the huge decision of coming home.. It's hard being back cos at 32 I am back home.. Looking for a job feeling alone and getting the calls from him that I broke his heart and he would give and do anything possible for me to return..it's tempting of course but deep down I know I cant marry him or live in Egypt indefinitely so have to make a new life now. As with yourself I have seen many many scam marriages and relationships with usually older western women and the men often have either gay lovers or numerous female ones as they have it all on a plate.. I could write more too but it's so hard as I felt in love but maybe it was just an escape for me after my failed marriage.. Or even if it was love the reality of the country and culture is too hard for me. Thanks again helps to hear other stories and keep me strong to not return there... Becs
