I had exactly the same situation but here in Europe. I can tell you from my experience but I can not guarantee if the rules are the same in Canada. When I was having the same doubts like you I made hundreds of calls to all the offices and govern. institutions to know more about it plus the info I had from the father I can say that your marriage would be legal, according to your husbands religion and practice if you register it in the embassy. If you have married in the Mosque its not the same like in the court house. So the embassy will proceed your paper from the mosque the way it will be legitimate, the same with his custody as a father of the child. So... he could make your child a citizen of his own country no matter where the child was born or what nationality is the mother.

I didn't agree, I didn't sign the papers. I was toooo afraid he could kidnap my child some day and I WOULD NEVER SEE HIM AGAIN. No matter if you trust your husband or not make sure you understand what you are doing with all kind of papers regarding your child. Contact a lawyer in international affairs if you have to, call his embassy and ask, don't do anything anything before you know what consequences it could have some day.
