Inconvenient and unnecessary practices will die in spite of religious sanctions

Reader comment on item: Hijabs on Western Public Women

Submitted by PPS (United States), Apr 9, 2010 at 21:50

Dear Dr Pipes:

If we ignore the religious dogma, the head scarf under most circumstances is basically an inconvenient product. So I believe that that the practice of wearing Hijab will die a slow death over time. Consider this news from the Islamic Republic of Bangladesh http://af.reuters.com/article/worldNews/idAFTRE6380ZU20100409. According to the news story a Bangladeshi court declared that forcing teachers to wear Hijab was unconstitutional.

Some good things have started to happen even inside the Islamic iron veil.
