IslamReader comment on item: Advice to Non-Muslim Women against Marrying Muslim Men Submitted by Natalia (United States), Dec 6, 2019 at 10:55 I think it's funny that b/c I know a lot about Islam the religion, and happen to think that Muslim men by and large do not think highly of or generally take American women as their wives - that a couple of women here think I am a practicing Muslim, or think that I am another poster, who is. The Muslim guy I dated 4 years ago, after I began an affair w/ him, told me he was considering leaving his "wife" at the time and (in quotes b/c it was not legal in the US). Six months after we met, asked me to marry him. I actually considered it, as I've done w/ previous proposals by American men. During the time I dated him, I learned a lot about the Islamic faith (I had learned before, I took Philosophy and Comparative Religion classes in college). I even went to the Mosque down the road (I live in the DC Metro area, we have a ton of what you call MENA here). It was not him personally that made me say no (he was very possessive and clingy but that was not it). It was not what I learned about the faith (I learned that it is antiquated but that the basic tenants could be applied today). It was me, I just don't want to be married. I have always been single, raised an only child, spoiled, very taken care of, etc. I never had an interest in babies or nurturing others and I am so used to being an only "entity" that I couldn't possible imagine being "attached" to another living human. Point is, you don't have to be a Muslim to like some things about the Islamic religion, and you can be a secular, modern American woman and still be able to take an honest look at your own culture and say, "No wonder MENA think the things they do American women." The cultures are just night and day. Submitting....
