Africa and the ME are big, beautiful lands that are great for tourism. There is absolutely nothing wrong with going to visit these lands. They offer more than Europe and most Western countries.

However, as a victim myself, I think women need to be careful. While we've been taken for a ride, my story isn't anything most of my friends haven't experienced with American men. The only difference is we can try to blame Islam or culture. But reality is these men make their choices. Because they don't all behave this way. It's racism to make sweeping generalizations.

All of us saw the warning flags and still pushed on. As people tend to do even in their own cultures. Before jumping into a relationship, we should be taking the time to know the culture instead of assuming we can do whatever. It's our arrogance that they exploit and our kindness that keeps us blind.

The idea that any woman would trust that a guy more than 5yrs younger than her is stupid... in hindsight that is. How many of these relationships last in our own countries? A very minuscule amount to be honest. Thinking a young desperate foreigner is any different is crazy!

We must not be naive and allow ourselves to be played. We must learn to truly respect and get to know someone else's culture and not only caring about our own. Accepting our own faults in these matters is key to keeping us from repeating these mistakes again. It does not give us the right to become racist towards Muslims, MENA, etc. Two wrongs don't make a right.
