Dear Tasmia,
You may be totally correct and your personal experience should guide you as it does. However,a book Islamic Jihad by a Muslim -who calls himself ex-Muslim gives various references(from Quran/Hadith)and says something else.
People can be good and bad and that has nothing to do with their religion. They could be spontaneously noble -not because of their religion. It's questionable behaviour when one says that he or she is great due to his or her religious tenets,as this automatically implies that without the religion that person would have been horrible.
There are allegedly many types of deception -permitted by their holy book. The practitioners reject the interpretations as skewed and claim that deception is deployed only when one faces extinction. Now ,the practiotioners themselves claim that it is better to die for one's faith than live for anything wrong. Then why should deception be permitted at all? So you see,Here lies the real issue.

You have done a wonderful job by actually working in the refugee camp and I am sure you did that with sincerity. There were reports of some aid workers getting into torrid affairs with refugees much younger than them after which they were disciplined or taken off. Some innocent samaritans who were working diligently also came under the scanner.Sad.
