Dear Jenny,
You don't need my advice but I just wished to convey what the title of my comnents says.
Religion doen't change a person. It's not even important.Character is very essential as one marries only once.Should one be open to marrying a very good Muslim ,who despite not(at least initially)coercing one to convert, will definitely convert the children to Islam and then quietly say-okay now think about converting since without both parents being Muslims the children can't inherit parental property?
This is where character comes into play.!
A genuinely noble person won't bother about religion and give full freedom to the spouse AND children to adopt the religion they like to.
An atheist or non-practising Muslim is dicey as no Muslim can ever be permitted to convert to another religion or NOT practice Islam as that is apostasy and attractes severe punishment.

As to if he is an atheist or a Christian is very tricky to know. His name might ring a bell or his passport could. Both are probabilities.Deception will be exposed much later. No one would ever approach their embassy to ascertain these facts and tge latter also might not be cooperative.

Be careful as I think you have been and you will be safe.
