I was in fact referring to women of MENA backgrounds. Although, yes, even some women of certain backgrounds in the U.K. also grow up to be very naive. No I'm not a PIO but I've known Asian women that are still strictly monitored well into adulthood. To the extent that these women have careers but still get phone calls every 5 minutes checking up on their whereabouts.

They grow up on Bollywood films and are curious about love, and desperately want a romance like in the movies. But because of their strict families they have to sneak around and meet boys on their lunch break. And no, they're not all locked up at home and abused but dating is not encouraged. So the closest they get to seeing how relationships work is through television.

Back to my original comment, many women from the discussed countries (Egypt etc.) are indisputably wrapped in cotton wool. For the sake of honour and for the sake of their prospective husbands... some of these women are very innocent and don't even know what sex entails. Do you think these types of men want someone shrewd and educated? They want a bunny rabbit with bright eyes and a fluffy tail.

Bollywood films and Turkish dramas ARE very popular in the Middle East, mainly in Morocco and the Gulf states. These girls don't grow up watching Eastenders. Even Moroccan girls with their reputation in the Arab world, are massive fans of Bollywood. Women are women the world over and who doesn't want someone who would (literally LOL) move mountains to be with them. Listen, I know it sounds absurd but these are the expectations a lot of these young girls have of men.

Of course times are changing and a lot of women are wising up... but the types of girls that get married off are the ones that dream of Shahrukh Khan.
