You had a lawful entry into the United States, and if you seek the assistance of an immigration attorney, you will be able to continue with your work permit and apply for your green card on your own (without your spouse). However, you may still be unable to use your visa to travel too and from Mexico until after you have a green card or receive advance parole to travel.

I would recommend visiting a Catholic Charities office near you for free legal help, or if you want to go to a domestic violence shelter, they can make a referral to a free attorney to help you.
