Sounds like not all are bad

I have lived and been married to an arab and Pakistani/ Indian muslim and been part of the culture for most of my life. I converted to Islam when I was very young and then apostated at a later date. That means I decided Islam wasn't meant for me. Every muslim country has its own culture and and cultures within cultures. Some men are great guys and I have met a few who care for their wives and steadfast even against the ones who would try to make them unhappy (usually sisters, community ectra who are prejudiced or just shit stirrers).

And Yes I do think that women need to be vigilant, have healthy boundaries and take their time with these men. You don't really know them well and if feelings change in the future (like they do in the west) and divorce takes place think about what position that is going to leave you in. I.e. even the best men in the middle east can be unhealthy and want the children as his own.

However there are a lot of men who are truly great guys and would never take the kids from their mother, men who do not hit their wives and who have great communication. Its never easy with intercultural dating and unfortunately the environment and mentality of whatever muslim country your man might come from is very different from our british or American culture with regards to attitudes towards womens rights.

I would never advise a women to marry into the arab culture because of the hardships present however I would like some of the brainwashing going on in the west to stop. Sure many of you have had bad experiences but that is mainly because you are judging from a yardstick that doesn't exist. Find out about your husband or partner before jumping on the ship.
