There are exceptions

I, too, have been lucky, I guess. I have been married to my Arab husband for almost 25 years. I am a Hispanic, Catholic and he is a secular, yet spiritual Muslim. We met while he was studying for his Ph.D. My husband has lived abroad most of his young adult life and is very cultured and educated, as is his family. He has always treated me as he expected his sisters to be treated. Suffice to say, that my son has been raised a Catholic.
Many of these tragic situations come about because the women involved do not want to see the signs that there is no real love of respect in the relationship.

Before getting involved with a man from such a different culture, learn a little about it and if he is not treating you the way that women are treated in his culture, forget him. I have always been treated with utmost love and respect. I know that I am in the minority, but I have known other cases. My husband is also not one to be influenced by his family regarding our relationship. I may not have the best relationship with my inlaws but my marriage is doing well. Both my sisters married men of a similar culture and were abused, and are now divorced. I am sad to hear all of these horror stories but there are also stories of true love and of Arab men who are not chauvinistic, abusive brutes. I suspect the omen married to the good ones just don't feel the need to write on this forum. I know that there are quite a few of us.
