Hi Celine,

I think you are correct to feel uncomfortable with the idea of staying at his apartment, especially upon your first visit. I would say don't accept anything AT ALL for free in these countries. It's a hagglers' trick which will eventually cost you ten times the original value. Also, staying at his place with an unmarried daughter may be seen as shameful, which is definitely not the kind of attention you want to draw to yourselves. Lastly, I think you should consider your own comfort zone. There is a significant time difference which might keep you awake for long hours at night. You don't need to adjust to anyone's sleeping schedule, sanitary conditions or strange culinary preferences, to mention just a few. Get your own place.

You will be his guests, so it's only natural for him to keep you company and introduce you to his culture. If he considers himself a "tour guide", than it's a major red flag. Make sure to establish healthy borders.

If I were you, I would look for a private apartment/house on AirBnB. This option will save you money and provide with more authentic experience, on your own terms.
