Talking to Others Off-Forum on Social Media and Through E-mail

It's come to my attention lately that some folks will from time to time offer or request (with varying urgencies) about speaking off the forum through other means.

If you do this, note the following:

1) Comments on this forum are always pre-approved. In my view, people are given wide latitude on what to say and it's rare that comments are edited.

That will not be the case on the social media. So be wary that you may be snapped at, ignored or blocked if you suddenly find some of disagreement. It may not even be related to the topics of this forum.

It would also mean, I'm sorry to say, that some folks will probably talk with their partners for false reassurances after reading this blog and change their mind 180 degrees.

2) While most of the advice given on here is good and I think most people at least think they are telling the truth, I cannot verify that put their own personal fears about their relationship aside to help you.

3) If you are used to using things like Facebook to only share photos or talking to family and close friends, understand that talking to strangers is an entirely different ballgame. Don't expect the same caring and concern as you would from a family member no matter how much rapport you felt has been built on here.

If this seems gloomy, well, understand that anonymous, on-line interactions often are. That's why many of us tell you to stay away from on-line, distance relationships in the first place.
