Submitted by Aicha (United Kingdom), Jan 22, 2017 at 13:40

Hi all, I am so sorry for all the people who as had a bad experience with Algerians. I can only tell you about mine.

I met an Algerian on fb chatted for 1 year. He was charming flattering I am older than he is 11 years. we decided to meet, I went and visited him in Algeria. I stayed with his family. I booked for 1 week stayed 3, I was treated as part of the family. I am not muslim but him and his family didn't try to convert me.

Yes parts of Algeria is not recommended for westerners but I was able to walk around freely didn't wear a hijab wore western clothes. Blonde hair blue eyes do call for attention just like any other arab country eg Egypt turkey. Respect plays a big role in Algeria and men are treated like gods. These men don't date they marry only or no sex at all. No singles of opposite sex can stay in a hotel together. I returned and married my Algerian, I made sure we had a marriage contract written up and signed by 2 witnesses.

Call it what you like I call it being sensible. Now I don't know what the future will be but for now we are happy. All I can say is Yes there are scammers out they're after a better life money ect. Video his family his friends make sure you know all about him first and remember long distant relationships is hard. I love Algeria it's people but be ready for a big culture shock.

If you choose to go book into a good hotel first, make sure that you tell the hotel or local police of your plans each day. I just returned after 1 month returning again in February. Algerian men are possessive and very jealous; you have been warned.
