Answer to Ophelia "Moroccan guy". Why to be careful, and what happens in his mindReader comment on item: Advice to Non-Muslim Women against Marrying Muslim Men Submitted by Monte (France), Apr 6, 2016 at 10:27 Hi Ophelia, I was born and lived in Algeria 27 years. I can tell you that a young man out there can do anything just to get "hooked" with a western woman. Those stories are legends in the popular discussions. It's not only the dream of a way out from a closed country, it's also the easiest way to get everything : legalised situation in USA or elsewhere, a housing, someone who cares for you and shows you the tricks, etc. Consider all these advantages, and ask yourself : does this apparent sudden love balance all of the mentioned benefits ? You can try a test : tell him that you don't want to live in USA, that you're ready to get rid of your citizenship to come and livre with him in Morocco, and see how he reacts. Tell him that you want to be a volunteer in the desert to help teaching children, and that you will never leave Africa, than ask him for compagny. Now, I know lot of stories about friends of mine who did date western women they met on internet or as tourists. Some of them were good men, and I never explicitly heard one of them planing to cheat on his wife or to leave her for a younger women. Nevertheless, all the focus was made on the successful plan : meeting a foreign woman and saving his life. It's all about one's individual escape dream. I never heard a single word about how that woman might feel, or how would he treat her, or how the couple would plane to raise kids. He might tell you about love, but be sure he probably never mentions this word, while he speaks about you, to his friends and family. He will use words as "saved", "Time to leave this place", "I'm going", "SHE loves me". And family doesn't say "You look happy, we are happy that you found love, we hope she loves you too", etc. In these situations, we say to each other "Congratulations ! You are a good talker ! A gasbag guy, not like your brother !". No mention about you, Ophelia, except as precious tool to "save" him. In most of cases, he tells you that he loves you while he dates three or four girls living around in the meantime. The reality is : the adventure of successfully meeting someone "from there", who takes you out of your flat boring trifling life, blinds even the best men/women. In this situation, you only have in mind the stories of a friend from another friend who met an american women who "saved him", how well he was a good speaker, or good looking guy, and how it is important to learn english and to practise sport. When you are a young man who spends day and night doing nothing, just sitting in the same corner of the city, this selfish dream becomes bigger than the person who helps you realising it, especially in our culture, where men are generally raised in a very selfish way, seeing foreign women as trophies. We also have been raised to be very possessive with women, we see jealousy as a virtue, whereas most of us men can't help but staring at any women we find attractive, then trying to approach her. Cheating is not a problem as long as it comes from men : it doesn't get the cheating man pregnant. Sad but true. How will he behave once he's in the middle of a city where he sees in one day more uncovered women than in his entire life ? I'm not saying all the men are the same, or that all stories don't work. But as said before, you have some red flags to warn you out, and you have plenty of time to test his objectives. So don't rush, don't get trapped by sweet words. Think about the future. And above all : test him. Tell him you don"t want to live in America. Tell him about other men dating you, and the general mixed environment in USA. Take your time !
