Not talking to your daughter is not the solution

Dear Dr Pipes,

Your reader from Australia states that his daughter has married a Muslim from Iraq and (I presume) out of his hurt, they have not talked to their daughter in over a year. I guess that is not the right approach. As dificult as it may sound, they should stay in contact of his daughter and her husband and children. Show them politely and example that if Australian society had followed the principles followed inside the Islamic world, their was no chance of a foreign born person coming to Australia and marrying a local. Show them politely what they are losing by closing their minds to new ideas. Show them that there would have been no inter-religious marriage between Muslims and non-muslims will take place if non-muslims offer the same deal to muslims that is offerred to them. And if the daughter has become a hijab/veil wearing devotee, she will herself see that normal australian women are getting a lot more fresh air than she is getting.
