i had no idea thats what it was

About 7 years ago i travelled to sharm, i had been many times before with my family. I made friends with an egyptian man there. Overall i spent about three months in sharm - 2 weeks, 1, week, 2 weeks, a month etc. During my last trip there my friend asked if i wanted to go to see some famous river (can'wt even emember hat it was now) and other sites. I was always a bit of an adventurer and it sounded an excellent idea.

I had travelled with this man before - once to stay with the Bedwins in a small settlemet by the sea. I had done no research on customs in egypt and genuiely the difference in culture never occured to me. I had an amazing time on that first trip, went Camel an Horse Riding - there was nothing more than friendship

Anyway I thought this man my friend, i was a lot younger and trusted him. So when he suggested this second trip i thought -- why not.

Anyway this time he said the police are not happy about egyptian men travelling wth tourist an that we needed to get travel document to say that it is ok - i never questioned this. My visit to egypt had been over several years and i trusted him.

He said i just needed my passport proof of id and to sign a paper to show it was ok and i agreed for him to travel with me. We went to a office and when i think back it was quite late at night. The offce had several men in there (it is only later i questioned this - it is mostly men working in sharm anyway).

Anyway my friend spoke to them in arabic and i was shown where to sign. Which i did. They didnt asme anything. They took a photocopy of my ID and we left with two copies of the paper (i presume the office had one also). As it happens my friend later broke his arm when we were quad biking th my family so we never took the full trip as planned (or maybe he never planned it). Instead he said he had arranged somewhere nice for us to go - delta sharm!!!! During which time - he did try his luck for more than friendship! so that was obviously on his mind.

Anyway i went back to the UK and carried on with my life - never hearing from him again although my email address has not changed. I never thought about it until years later when i read a artcle on orfi contract and realized this must be what had done, im mortified!! We were allowed stay in the same room, a guard checked the document, the men had been witnesses. I had thrown the paper away - the copy i had anyway, i guess he still ha his.

Now im worried as i want to get married in the UK - Would this have been automatically registered with the courts? Can i find out if it is registered? could this have been done without me? do i need legal advise? If so who should i contact? I need to sign the document here soon to state i am not and have never been married civil or religious. If i was, i certainly never said any vows. I do not want to do wrong and am losing alot of sleep over this. I really need advice and guidance on this.
