marriage to Egyptian man

My fiance & I have a paper marriage now so that we can stay together when I visit him....Now we have appointment for marriage with the American Embassy in Cairo. He is telling me that we do not need embassy but can get a marriage paper stamped through his government ....I am beyond child bearing age but he asked me if sometime he wants a son can he marry another wife as he has not had a son yet . I said no not as long as I am alive.......If we marry in Embassy am I protected from most things such as his right to marry another ? If we marry only through his government do I lose all rigts ?
