Cynthia,

I can say that, yes, there is a cultural component to it, that women are not treated the way you are accustomed to in the west, but the reality is that it is of no consequence. If you are with a man who causes your esteem and confidence to be so low and makes you unhappy, it's time to leave and heal yourself... best of luck to you and have the courage to save yourself.
