I don't think you can understand his feelings and values well. This guys is stuck between traditional-cultural values and the future with you. I am Dating an American princess now, we have the similar problems now ( I am putting you into my Angel's shoes and now I understand how she feels about me too) you are actually helped me about thinking the problems in our relationship.
