Seconded!Reader comment on item: Advice to Non-Muslim Women against Marrying Muslim Men Submitted by Penny (United Kingdom), Oct 25, 2013 at 10:56 "Take care of yourself and forget Muslim men. They are not compatible with Christians" Hi Farra, Susie is correct in my opinion. For ANY kind of Islamic marriage!! Even the 'proper' one! This statement is 100% true. In romantic relationships Muslims are NOT compatible with non-Muslims (in my experience, and I am not even a religious person) unless you are prepared to change everything about yourself and your life, give up your identity as a person, convert, and be utterly obedient to your partner. Even if the man seems like he wants you and accepts you just as you are, (and do bear in mind that this could sometimes be a smoke screen until he has you 'hooked'), the family will NOT, and will subtly or overtly 'drive a wedge' and change his mind. It has taken me a year of being with this man to fully realise this - and we were married for ten months (I never converted, and told him from the outset that it would never happen) - we are now divorced, and I am suffering hugely with the 'fallout' from this relationship! And we met randomly in person in our local area, not through the internet. I think my situation is a fairly extreme one, but quite honestly, these men's brains are programmed differently and their sense of 'normality' bears no relation to non-Muslim 'normality'! To the point where they either can't or choose not to see what is right and wrong. It is soul destroying. I am a strong, confident, independent, young and reasonably attractive woman with no children, and this man has still managed to mess up my head and has mentally abused me to the point that I am now in counselling and he will be in court soon to answer domestic violence charges for the physical violence that happened whenever I would not 'obey' him or disagreed with him - even over the tiniest things! Please please take care of yourself. If your instincts scare you - listen to them!! Even if the guy seems to be gorgeous, charming, sexy, good company and fun. They are excited by non-Muslim women and Western lifestyles and mistakenly think that they can have their cake and eat it, by converting you to fit into THEIR lifestyle, (plus get 'God-points). Their sense of 'normality' makes them feel a genuine sense of 'entitlement' regarding how they treat you and how they expect you to treat them. In my experience these men lie and manipulate as standard. It is SO sad and hard to comprehend. I can only assume that this is how they learn to live within such a restrictive culture/religion, and in countries where governments are corrupt, and opportunities are scarce. In any case, I wouldn't recommend a romantic relationship with a Muslim man unless you are also Muslim, or are prepared to both convert and 'belong' to one. In my experience they don't know how to have a real 'relationship' as we would call it. And FORGET a 'temporary' marriage, as it is purely to permit them to have sex without falling foul of Allah XXXX Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
