It's not unusual for immigrants to try and look more Western. In some cases, it just helps them assimilate and even be more marketable. I know some Asian immigrants who will essentially adopt names in English because their foreign names are hard to pronouce.

I would be careful with basing situations on here with generalizations, though. I'm sure you and your husband have seen a lot of interracial, interethnic or inter-whatever couples BUT just because they look happy and civil in public (and I can attest from personal experience even with dating people who maybe are not as different) is that it doesn't always show what is going on underneath.

Especially be wary of people who for whatever reason feel the need to show off their relationship and rub people's noses in it. I'd say there's some issue there with either the person(s) and/or the relationship.
