I think you need to give yourself a pat on the back here. A lot of people in your situation won't stop, look and decline.

No doubt you would have learned the harder way if you hadn't.

And it sounds like he played it cool, maybe thinking you'd come running to him or something.

Don't be too surprised if he tries to contact you again months or weeks down the road. People like him looking for a scam, money or even just a "good time" have a way of showing up again.
