Not At All Cruel, Scott--Cheating Spouses

Dear Scott:

First of all, I am very sorry that this happened to you. My guess is that this happens more often than you think, however miniscule that consolation may be. I can just imagine American men cheating on-line with Second and Third World women, to say nothing of cyber and phone sex.

What I can tell you is that liars and scammers are successful in targeting vulnerable women. If your wife is this deep into a scam to the point where she gave you a false international destination, I wonder what else she was doing on-line. I would be surprised if this were her first and only encounter, though I guess it's possible. Just some things to consider and I feel with my experience it would be a disservice to omit that.

At any rate, yeah, she's getting used for money to be blunt. I don't know if you both share accounts, but that money is pretty much gone and won't be seen again.

If you proceed as planned, I think you'll be preventing a lot of heartache maybe not just for your wife but for other women as well. I don't see that as cruel.

I respect you very much for trying to save your marriage. That is nothing short of saintly on your part. I hope that you both can get counseling or some other service to help. "The Marriage Course" by Nicky and Sila Lee is a great resource as well.
