Thank you, for the first time since all this happened, and I read your and Susie's replies, I actually felt understood and I definitely have tears in my eyes.

I think the red flags were there. He would make comments on my clothes being too open (they weren't) and I felt like a broken record trying to explain to him that I was not Turkish, I was not Muslim, I was Scottish and its perfectly normal in my country to dress like this. I thought I was being strong, wasn't being pushed around. But why should I have had to constantly defend myself?

They are jealous and possessive and being Muslim it really suits them. The women cover up completely "only to show their beauty to their husbands" (he never said this, but I did my research).

I am going to read your story after I post an update, hope you wont be too angry at me if you read it!
