The rate of divorce in Egypt is very low because divorce brings shame to the families. A man feels no guilt in taking an Egyptian wife and adding a foreign wife as well because he is allowed to take up to 4 wives. This is on the proviso that he obtains permission from the previous wife/wives and can support them equally. Egyptian men know that this practice is not accepted in the west and will try to hide the Egyptian wife as you said. The Egyptian wife will often pose as a sister or a cousin and yes, the family will be in on the scam. The Egyptian men will in 90% of cases, be married to an Egyptian woman before he turns 30 and a child born by the first anniversary.

In Egypt, I have been in the same room with a friend of my husband's (Egyptian) who was parading with an English woman when the man introduced his Egyptian wife as a good friend to the English woman. Egyptian men DO NOT have Egyptian women as "friends". The English woman then befriended the Egyptian wife and they often went shopping together with the English woman buying her new found friend hand bags, scarves, shoes etc. On her many trips tto Egypt the English woman would hand over money to the Egyptian wife to help her family. What a scam!. Fortunately that man has faded from our lives but I hear that he still targets English women (the relationships never last) in the same modus operandi.

Unless foreign women have a good handling on the psyche and culture of Egyptian men they should be very wary of entering into a relationship with them. Online romances with Egyptians are doomed for failure because the men will be 100% scammers. When you see these young men in internet cafes in Cairo and Luxor talking to multiple women at the same time and high fiving their mates when they get "I love you" from the scammed women it is sickening. Fortunately, with new phone technology and the advent of Ipads etc , I don't have the need to visit internet cafes any more but the practice is still rampant.

Reports in Australia last week were that $2,000,000 is scammed from Australians each week on the internet. Second to the Nigerian scams were internet romance scams. The warnings are out there but it is amazing how many women take no notice and then blame the men when the relationship unravels and they are left emotionally and financially distraught.
