Hi Penelope,

I am married to an Algerian and hes the sweetest man I have ever met. And like your man, he is very close to his family. Now before we married, religion and children were a priority issue for us to know exactly our feeling and expectations with this issue. This is the agreement we came to,since he is muslim and I dont practice or follow any organized religion, we agreed that our child/dren would be told about my husbands religion and about my beliefs, but they will choose their own beliefs/ religion. We both agreed that to force someone to take a religion defeats the purpose, its something you need to accept freely. Now I knw that my husbands religion is the one thing he would change nr would I with my beliefs.We respect one another and definitely discussed every situation we could possibly think of before we married and started a family.

Now I know some Algerian men who would not compromise on this, most want their children to be raised muslim. Now what you need to do is have a very serious discussion with your man and make sure you come to an agreement that cant be changed later and make that perfectly clear. You said your man was strict about his religion, so does this also mean you are married? just curious...
