The right of a Muslim woman to propose divorce

Sure she can propose divorce if she's not happy with her husband for any reason, but he doesn't have to grant it. He can divorce her as easily as saying "Talaq, talaq, talaq" (I divorce you, I divorce you, I divorce you) in front of witnesses and she doesn't even have to be one of them.

But she cannot get a divorce from him unless he grants his permission.

As to the beating, lightly or not, it's disrespectful at the very least even if it doesn't do physical harm. This is NOT a selling point for marriage to Muslim men.
