It can work, but dotdotdot

I met a couple who adopted a child from China because after a decade of marriage, they'd had no success in producing a biological child. She was native-born, white American, he was originally Iranian and came to the USA as a student, and they met and married at a university in the States.

BUT: Although he was raised as an Ithna'ashariyya Shi'ite Muslim and she was raised as a Baptist, he had been attending her religious services rather than the other way around. Something tells me that he had become something of a WASP by osmosis during his years in the States.

And, yes, they weren't thinking of moving to Iran any time soon.
