Hi Becca,

I just recently dated a guy from Tunisia (neighboring country to Algeria) and had almost the same experience. We were both living in an East African country at the time and met passing by on the road. We started out just as friends, going out for a fanta and enjoying each other's company but he knew how to play the game real well. He was a charmer and had all the right words to say. Constantly telling me I looked like a model and how beautiful I was. They know exactly what to say to win a girl over.

He also told me I wasn't like any other girl he'd ever met, said he loved me and wanted to marry me. What I didn't know is that he already had a fiance in Tunisia (which was also found out via facebook). He denied it at first and then admitted he had a girlfriend, who he had to marry because he had met her parents but "really didn't love her." I fell for the lies and continued to stay in that relationship. The lies piled one on top of the other and it wasn't until I went home to America for a few weeks on holiday that I was able to process all of it and recognize the evil behind it.

Don't let this guy fool you. Their culture is very different from ours in the West and will only cause you heartache. Listen to your heart and your conscience, if you have ANY reservations about ANY of it, follow them. I knew from the beginning the reservations I had about this Tunisian man but decided to ignore them and it only caused a lot of pain in the end. Please listen to the other girls on here and their experiences, they are wise and know what they are talking about. I'll be praying God directs you in the right way.
