Iraqi Man, Canada and On-line dating

Yes, this is undoubtedly a scam. What's unusual is how up front he was about telling you that if Canada refused him, he really wasn't interested. A lot of times, they don't do this.

A lot of times, scammers can and do find ways to get by government immigration officials. My stance has always been that they are not there to discern your relationship beyond the interest of the state.

Going along with an obvious scam like this may have put you on the hook financially for him, even if your relationship didn't work out.

I can nevertheless understand how it is a difficult and enticing situation to have attention from someone like that., but keep in mind that international, on-line dating is a very poor way to meet a good partner.

My concern for you at this point is that men like this may not give up so easily. If you do cut of all contact with him (which I strongly recommend), he might come crawling back to you in 6 months.
