Daniel, I'm honored that you chose to respond to my post! Thank you! It's very helpful for me to hear a male perspective. Thank you also to Sara for your comments. Unfortunately, it's not a joke, and I invested 2 hours per day, everyday, for 3 months talking to him. I guess he sweet-talked me and I fell for his beautiful words and way of speaking, "supposedly" from the heart. Since I was the one to initiate contact on an online dating site, I kept telling myself that this guy was for real. I saw his profile picture of a forest in Baghdad (?) and I simply asked where that forest was; this is what started the whole relationship. He basically made me feel sorry for him and told me about how Iraq has "killed" his dreams of being an interior designer (he has a university degree), yet he was unwilling to help himself by going to Jordan or Turkey to look for work.

He also started coming across as very depressed about 2 months into the online relationship. So, of course, I felt bad for him. I have since (in the last 2 days) realized that he is actually very manipulative. He blamed me for the fact that Canada denied his Visitor's Visa, because I didn't hire a lawyer. He claims that he "told me so!" and he knew Canada would say "no".

As I'm typing this, I'm realizing what an idiot I've been! I just really wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, and I really thought I could save him from his terrible life. Comment boards like this are very helpful, so thank you to everyone for listening! Rest assured, I am going to sever this relationship. Thank goodness things didn't progress any further!
