Dear Lisa, I came across this page by chance. I have lived in Egypt for many years, recently left. So I speak from experience.

Your experience with this guy, I'm certain, at times has been wonderful and you have both enjoyed memorable times and I am sure you have experienced great love.

However, what you are feeling, because you have demonstrated it so acutely and didnt have the chance to stand back and really see the man standing in front of you. I understand that your are confused, some men are particularly good at being romantic both in words and deeds, but you have to look at his actions.

The fact that you guys did not sleep with each other is the least you should expect, Egyptian men are usually very respectful if this is the standard you set and doesn't this apply to most guys?

You seem, from your letter, to be a very loving kind person who fell completely in love. I would suspend your overwhelming love for him and stand back, should you come into contact with him again. Please do not take it as a reflection on you if you d not hear from him or if he has become distant. This is just life. It has little to do with being Egyptian or otherwise. It does not have anything to do with any fault on your part.

The same dating etiquette and expected standards you have for guys in your home town must apply here. You deserve to be treated with respect, you deserve to have someone love you and you do not deserve somebody to call you names, or call your morality into question.

He doesnt have the right to your email or your facebook anymore than I do. The experience you had with this guy was one that will affect you for a while, do not look back on it with bitterness, but learn a lesson from it: That you can lovely greatly, but love without respect or when you are vulnerable because of how much you love someone can lead to great heartache. I wish you a wonderful future and that your true love is making his way to you wherever he is from.
