I think that I would be very cautious about engaging with a Muslim man who is encouraging you to wear an abaya or covering. It may seem like an innocent gift, but it speaks to his view that you would be better off looking more modest and covered up. Just that view alone is enough to cause trouble in the future if you are not inclined to agree that you are immodest or loose. I would nip it in the bud before you get to know his views more deeply and are more involved.
