Reader comment on item: Confirmed: Barack Obama Practiced Islam

Submitted by JG (United States), Dec 5, 2009 at 11:58

Regardless of whether Obama once was a practicing Muslim as a child or not, think about this. A young boy or girl is raised in a Catholic home. They attend church every week with their family. They go to a Catholic school for their entire education. They do all the traditional rituals and whatnot that goes with being part of the religion. As a teenager or young adult, this person gets tired of religion and decides to become an atheist. They quit believing in Christ, or God or anything remotely religious. That man or woman remains a stout atheist till the day they die. No one is going to say about that person, "Oh, they say they were atheist, but since they went to Catholic school once as a kid, they still are Catholic." They chose be an atheist. They remained firm in their beliefs till the day they died. No one would dare to say anything about that.

So when a young boy is put in a Muslim school for two years - not his whole childhood, but two years - and hardly practices anyway, and he gets older decides that he accepts Jesus as his Lord and Saviour, and stays that way till the day he dies, if he tries to become president, everyone says, "Oh he's Muslim still because he went to a Muslim school once."- completely disregarding the personal choices he's made as an adult.

Think logically, people. People change as they grow older. They make choices as to what they believe. Some choose to remain firm in their beliefs, some backslide, some change religions entirely, and some decide that religion is just a joke.
