US has Freedom of Religion

Reader comment on item: Confirmed: Barack Obama Practiced Islam

Submitted by Lulu (Egypt), Jan 24, 2009 at 09:20

To be a good journalist, one must be objective and do their research. Had Barack been born in a country such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, he would automatically be considered a muslim, as these countries automatically register the children under the religion of their "Natural Born" fathers. However, as he was born in the USA, he has the freedom to choose his religion, and as a conscious adult, he chose Christianity.

How silly to take into account what the boy did in the 3rd and 4th grade. Not many children have control over their religion at this time, and there is no reason to believe that he did either. Further the blogger should have determined what it takes to become a muslim. You have to proclaim that there is only one God and the Mohamed is his prophet. One could attend the mosques several times, as many tourist do here in Egypt, and they would never be considered a muslim until they make this proclamation.

What we need to focus on is the unity he brought to our lovely country. No other president in American History could say their family members include Christian, Muslim, Jewish, and Buddhist. No other president's family has ever been made up of White, Chinese, Indonesian, African (Kenyan), Black American.

Bless his mother for keeping an open mind, not clinging or hiding behind a bible or koran, and loving a man regardless of his race or nationality. She bore a man that has changed the first family as we have known it. Now the first family finally represents ALL of AMERICA!
