Was Obama a Moslim?

Reader comment on item: Confirmed: Barack Obama Practiced Islam

Submitted by Leslie (United States), Jan 7, 2008 at 11:57

As an American Jew who is strongly supportive of Israel and not yet sure who I will vote for in the Presidential primary, I am not concerned with whether or not Obama was a practicing believer of Islam. What I am concerned about is who he is now, whether or not he supports Israel in an ongoing, long-term manner, and what affect his belief system has on his potential presidency. For example, in oder to really state whatever your concerns are, you should elaborate and explain your paragraph as noted below:

All this matters, for if Obama once was a Muslim, he is now what Islamic law calls a murtadd (apostate), an ex-Muslim converted to another religion who must be executed. Were he elected president of the United States, this status, clearly, would have large potential implications for his relationship with the Muslim world.

What implications? Would he be at a greater risk of assasination? Would he be received by Moslim nations?

Thank you.
