Oh Please, what happens in grade school is not an issue!

Reader comment on item: Confirmed: Barack Obama Practiced Islam

Submitted by Adam Nehr (United States), Mar 2, 2008 at 12:19

When I was in 2nd through 8th grade, I went to Catholic schools. I realized very quickly that superstitions held no answer for me and by the end of eighth grade, I rejected religion alltogether. That is evidence of the evolution of reason in a developing mind and that evolution cannot ocurr if one does not expose himself to the options.

I would resent being called catholic now and would also resent being deemed unqualified for a position based on the fact that I went to catholic church with my otherwise free thinking parents until I was 13. My parents, like Obama's took religion in perspective and were not in any way fanatic. As a result, I made my own decisions as it appears Barack did.

In light of the last 7 years where a deluded, manipulative, egocentric, christian has nearly destroyed our government, I worry more about Obama's current affirmations of Christianity than I do his brief brush with Islam.

That said I am not a bigot and believe like our founding fathers did that a mans beliefs are personal and not a matter of concern to the electing public. I also reject the concept of a religious test for politicians, so Barack Hussein Obama still has my financial support and my vote!
