Interpretive perceptions of notwithstanding, the progenitors of the Soviet Union and the subsequent defenders if its ideology were nothing if not blatant in their complete disregard of the former religious sensibilties of the Czarist regime they so diligent sought to extinguish. Their history, their documentation of their efforts to be the ultimate atheist society are well established, both in their own publications and in the information found throughout the academia that studied them.

Whether we wish to make a contemporary acknowledgement of the Soviet ideology and their stand against religion in government or not is somewhat moot, but we see an occasional news report of how the current Russian administration returns Orthodox property (those that were not completely destroyed) to their former religious use. If that is not a battle of secular versus religious, then the history books need a serious re-write, for the Soviets themselves made their own acknowledgments of wanting Almighty God out of their business.
