Doesn't Matter

Reader comment on item: Confirmed: Barack Obama Practiced Islam

Submitted by Bruce (United States), Oct 17, 2008 at 11:45

It does not matter whether we see Senator Obama as a Muslim, or even if he sees himself as a Muslim.

What matters is does Islam view Senator Obama as a Muslim. I don't exactly have the answer to that question, but I do know that under Islamic Law, a male child born to a Muslim man is Muslim. Period. End of discussion.

My concern is that if the Islamic world sees Senator Obama as a former Muslim who converted to Christianity, he will be considered a murtaqd (sic?) or apostate. Islamic Law dictates, and all of the Sunni and Shia sects agree, that apostates must be executed. This in not something that is up for debate. It is a religious commandment. Our government likes to differentiate between moderate Muslims and radical Muslims. I don't see anything moderate about that stance.

And what is our response when some a Muslim sacrifices himself or herself in order to kill the infidel, apostate President of the Great Satan? Are we going to sit down with them, without precondition, and negotiate the dead back to life?
