To Fern - Can you clarify?Reader comment on item: Israel Shuns Victory Submitted by Pat (United States), Mar 30, 2006 at 20:47 We have been told that a greater Israel would result in Jews becoming a minority in their own country because the Palestinians living in the annexed areas would become citizens.How can withdrawing from the West Bank make Israel less Jewish? Wouldn't the reverse be true? Wasn't the motivation behind Sharon's proposed withdrawal from Gaza and the West Bank to preserve Israel as a Jewish state, rather than to destroy it? Shouldn't the low voter turnout be a warning to Jews not to get complacent and not to voice their discontent by staying home on election day? Isn't voter apathy something Israelis should take pains to avoid? Staying home might be a way to protest, but it ends up diluting the Jewish vote and it won't help you achieve your aims.
