Israel Avoids Victory

Reader comment on item: Israel Shuns Victory

Submitted by Gunther H. Schiff (United States), Mar 28, 2006 at 16:10

TThe question is: Is it possible to win a war with the Palestinians without genocide? Is genocide, wholesale killing of Arab Palestinians a viable method of attaining victory? I suggest that an even partial attempt at "cleansing" would bring the whole world down on Israel and is therefore not a viable solution. A viable solution is the wall, with a promise to dismantle it when and if it is proven that the Arabs no longer present a threat.

The road from Gaza to the West Bank must be kept open with a clear understanding that any terrorist act will close it indefinitely. Every effort must be made by Israel and the nations of the world to create in the new Palestine economic progress so that the Palestinian people have something to lose. It must also be made clear that any attack on the East side of the fence will result ion a major retribution which will punish the Palestinian people whose governement must control the would be terrorists. A most unsatisfactory solution, but I believe it is the only solution practically available.
