The War of 1967 never ended

Reader comment on item: Israel Shuns Victory

The 1967 War never officially ended. There was a ceasefire on June 10, but there has never been a formal cessation of hostilities. The only three countires with whom Israel signed any kind of peace agreements were Egypt, Jordan, and Syria. Everyone else who had joined in the war on Israel should still be considered "enemy combatants."

This goes double for the Palestinians, who were given a maximum of five years to establish self-rule, under the Oslo Agreement, to purge its society of anti-Semitic textbooks and other media, and to cease all attacks on Israeli citizens. They actually had seven years, after which they were offered the prospect of having their own state covering 97% of the "disputed territories" that Israel had once owned outright.

Their response was the September 2000 intifadeh. Basically, another WAR declared on Israel.

Every attempt at making peace with the Palestinians has been met with violence. Every attempt at providing better living conditions for the Palestinians has been met with resistance from the Arab world.

And, now we have Hamas, yet another puppet Palestinian government whose only goal in life is the extermination of Jews and the eradication of Israel. In other words, Hamas has formerly declared war on Israel, and Iran has informerly suggested likewise.

And, what will the United Nations do in response to this? Doing what it does best: nothing.

Israel should take the position that it will no longer tolerate any kind of attacks on its citizenry or property. Any further acts of terrorism will be met with disbanding and disarming the PA and recapturing the land it gave away for nothing.

The enemy thinks that Israelis no longer have the stomach for war, and they may be right. Which is why Israel has to correct that thinking hard and fast. It has to win the PR battle as well.

Either you learn to live in peace with Israel, or you lose your right to live in and around it.
